What is a Personality Portrait Session?
Personality Portrait Mini Sessions
Timeless studio portraits that let your child’s personality take the lead. Simple backdrop, soft light, no distractions — just genuine expressions and the sweet quirks we adore as parents.
Why we do these
Kids grow and change so quickly. These sessions make it easy to pause, capture the season they’re in right now, and remember who they were before the next stage arrives.
A tradition that ages well
As a mom of four, I’m constantly amazed at how different each year feels. The shy smiles, the goofy laughs, the missing teeth, the longer legs — it’s all fleeting, and it’s all worth saving.
Why families love them
-
Fast + fun for kids
-
Stress-free for parents
-
Beautiful, classic style
-
Grandparent-approved gifts
-
Confidence-boosting for little ones
-
Perfect for gallery walls + yearly albums
The best part
These photos hold the everyday magic — not just birthdays and holidays, but the in-between years that often go undocumented and are some of the sweetest.
What to Wear
These sessions are all about your kid’s personality, so outfits can be fun, simple, or bold — whatever feels like them. The backdrop is clean and distraction-free, which makes both classic and colorful choices work beautifully.
For girls, flowy modest dresses photograph so well (and shoes are totally optional — bare feet are adorable!). Boys look great in simple tees, button-ups, henleys, sweaters, suspenders, etc.
You’ll get each final image in both color + black & white so you have full flexibility for printing and wall art.
Things I love for these:
• muted tones with a funky hair style (mohawk, messy bun, hat, glasses)
• timeless neutrals, denim, and simple textures
• bold or colorful outfits if that’s your kid’s vibe
Not much is off-limits — I’d just skip neon (it can cast onto skin) and big logos that distract from their cute face.
Feel free to bring a favorite stuffed animal, blanket, instrument, or whatever they’re into right now. Pets are welcome too! The whole goal is low-key, fun, and big impact portraits that make you smile every day.
A lot of families do these once a year — it’s such a sweet way to watch them grow.
And if you want input on outfits, send me pics — happy to help!
Tips for Preparing for Your Personality Portrait Mini Session
-
Bring a favorite toy, instrument, or lovie
Little comforts and familiar items help your child feel at ease and can add personality to their portraits. -
Snacks beforehand
A full tummy = happy kids! Feed them in the car or before arrival, then change them into their session outfit once you’re at the studio. -
Wipe faces before arrival
Clean off snack crumbs, runny noses, or sticky fingers before stepping inside. This helps kids “reset” emotionally so they’re ready to shine! -
Arrive 5–15 minutes early
This gives your child a moment to transition to the studio and helps avoid any last-minute stress. If I’m with another client, just knock or I’ll pop out to greet you. -
Be ready to join in the fun
Parents often get the best smiles! I’ll invite you to stand behind the camera and even play peek-a-boo to bring out your child’s personality. -
Plan for year-round portraits
Capturing your child’s personality at different stages is priceless. Ask about mini session availability so we can schedule a calendar of memories throughout the year! -
Optional: Bribery works too 😉
A little incentive never hurts—just something small to celebrate their time in front of the camera.
